Dr. Wayne Jacobsen was born in Southern California, but grew up in Sacramento, California. After graduating from Pacific Union College in the Napa Valley, he attended medical school at Loma Linda University. He completed his residency in anesthesiology (1976) and fellowship in adult critical care (1977) there as well. Dr. Jacobsen also completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care in 1975 at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. In 1979, Dr. Jacobsen started a long, and mostly rewarding, career at Loma Linda University. He was director of the Surgical-Trauma Unit until 2002, and from 1995-2002 was Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. After resigning as Department Chair, he was Chief of Anesthesiology at the Loma Linda V.A. Hospital. In 2004, Dr. Jacobsen moved to Arizona where he served as Associate Head for Education and Residency Director for the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Jacobsen assumed the position of Department Head on July 1, 2013.
