Professional Interests: My laboratory research is focused on the role of the endothelial glycocalyx on barrier function, mechanotransduction and resuscitation. I am primarily interested in how heparan sulfate proteoglycan sense and transduce mechanical forces into signals that regulate vascular barrier function. The majority of my studies are focused on the pulmonary circulation but we have a growing interest in the mesenteric circulation. Clinically, I am interested in the science of resuscitation practices, the effects of colloids on the glycocalyx and endothelial permeability and improving global hemodynamic management for improved patient outcomes.

Professional Interests: My primary focus is on the physical and biological chemistry of plasmatic coagulation and fibrinolysis. The interactions of iron and carbon monoxide on hypercoagulability in settings such as obesity, migraine headache and mechanical circulatory support are a focus of study. Further, the attenuation of the effects of snake venom metalloproteinases and serine proteases on coagulation by modifying fibrinogen or directly inhibiting the enzymes has been my primary interest. I am also an editor of the journal Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis. I am also an editor for the Journal of Thrombosis & Thrombolysis  and the journal Blood Coagulation and Fibrinolysis.​
